We landed in Zadar at about 2:00pm local time and took a taxi from the airport to our apartment. Our "landlord" had bikes that she said we could take at our leisure so we thought we'd explore the town of Zadar! After a nice ride along the coast, we decided to head back to the corner shop and grab a snack. Ali had just run the Brighton Marathon the day before so she was a little knackered so we thought we'd just head to the beach, have a snack , have a few beers and get to bed early. We wanted to get to sleep early (weird) to wake up refreshed for the next day!
On the way to the bus-stop in the morning to head into zadar (as we were staying in a town on the outskirts) it was bizarre how many stray dogs we saw. We saw two dogs meet up on the corner at a shop and I swear say hello and go for a little jog together. They came back to the shop, nodded their heads goodbye and went their separate ways. It was really funny.
The next day we went to Pag, famous for its cheese and spent the whole day relaxing at the beach and frolicking in the aegean sea. Also, at Pag, Mary introduced me to the hackie sack. We made it our vow to hackie in every country we went-to thereafter.
We woke up after Pag feeling refreshed and took a 5 hour bus ride along the coast of croatia from zadar to pag to split. The views on the way were absolutely incredible. We arrived in Split and were preparing for Mary's 23rd birthday which we planned on celebrating at the local hotspot "club" O'Hara's where some of the strangest live music I've ever heard was played! We made friends with all the bands that were playing that night.
We woke up the next morning, took a long walk along the coastline, explored a little more, and got read for our first overnight train!

Arriving in Split. We took a 3 hour bus ride that morning all along the coast. Split is one of the major ports in Croatia. From here you can take ferries to most of the islands, and over to Italy, and down to Greece. |
